Councils acknowledge that the right to free equitable access to basic information is a cornerstone of our democratic society. Public libraries provide that access.
People love local public libraries. They are centres for learning, literature, heritage and cultural activities critical to the development of well informed vibrant communities. They are safe, convenient and accessible community spaces.
Local Government NSW recognises the value of the NSW Public Library Network, which comprises 360 local public libraries, as well as the State Library of New South Wales.
We relentlessly pursue the case for better NSW Government funding and other important operational support for the NSW Public Library Network.
We represent the views of councils through the Public Libraries Consultative Committee (PLCC) (a sub-committee of the Library Council).
