Modernising Local Government
In April 2010, the LGSA (now Local Government NSW) released the Modernising Local Government: Discussion Paper (PDF, 1.48MB) in response to initial discussions raising questions about how local government is best positioned to deal with the challenges of the coming 20 years.
We ran a program of Modernising Local Government focus groups in metropolitan and regional locations from August to November 2010. In total, there were 17 groups involving 175 representatives from 62 councils, two ROCs, five peak bodies and the DLG.
Written submissions were received from eighteen member councils, two metropolitan ROCS, one rural Strategic Alliance, and one insurance pool.
After analysing the feedback from the focus groups and the submissions, the LGSA prepared and released the Modernising Local Government: Consultation Report (PDF, 2.65MB). We used these reports to feed into the program design and papers for Destination 2036.
